As far as Murray’s article goes, what strikes me is a simple concept. The idea of utilizing the members within an organization to bring about creative ideas and solutions while utilizing managers to manage the needed change. It seems simple, but if each group is willing, it is an idea that utilizes each group’s strengths for the overall achievement of needed change (Murray, 2013).
Within our organization, we have many creative people that have stepped up when the need has presented itself. We have had people that have suggested and researched new scheduling options to reduce the number of commuting trips each month. As we have some individuals commute a long distance for work, this would be a significant reduction in vehicles on the road and lessen the carbon footprint of the department as a whole. For this change to occur, it takes those in formal leadership positions to manage the change and to bring it to fruition.
