IT Project Failure

IT Project Failure

Sometimes projects will flop, not because of the incompetence of their technicalities or other technological issues, but rather due to simple and basic elements in an organization. Usually, projects have to be well coordinated in the organization if anything sensible is to be made out. IT is a new venture that many companies and organizations are currently installing to keep their companies with the best technologies and the changing times. Unfortunately, IT projects are the most susceptible to failure, and most usually due to organizational issues (Whittaker, 1999). In this essay, I wish to show an IT project that has failed due to organizational issue and also the issues that have been common in most IT projects that have propagated failure.

A good example of an information technology project failure in the United States is the Virtual file case for the Federal Bureau for Investigation (FBI). As can be seen from the name, the project was aimed at ensuring safe data management and record keeping in the FBI. Unfortunately, like many other IT projects, this was also a failure. To understand the reasons that drove the project to failure, it would be necessary to look at the reasons why most of the IT projects fail. Some of these reasons include poor project planning, weak business case of the project and lack of support and involvement of the top level management in the endeavor.  These are the major causes of the project failures, although there is others, some of which re minor and could be controlled if the major ones are tamed.
